Meier: Southern Illinois Will Not Become The Abortion Capital Of The Midwest

OKAWVILLE, IL - In response to a recent New York Times report documenting that abortion providers in Carbondale performed more than 11,000 abortions last year, pro-life conservative State Representative Charlie Meier pledged to introduce legislation to repeal taxpayer funding of abortion, restore parental notice requirements, and enforce medical safety standards on abortion clinics operating in Illinois.

“Gov. Pritzker set out to make Illinois the most progressive state in the nation, but Southern Illinois is not going to be turned into the abortion capital of the Midwest. What is happening here is horrifying and does not reflect our Southern Illinois values. I will introduce legislation that will roll back taxpayer funding for abortion and restore common-sense protections for unborn children.”

Meier also pointed to his work defeating radical policies in Springfield and standing with pro-life leadership nationally.

“I helped elect the most pro-life president in my lifetime by collecting the most petition signatures to get President Trump on the ballot in Illinois. I look forward to working with the White House to enlist their help in preventing radical Chicago politicians from destroying the heart and soul of Southern Illinois."

Meier said he will push legislation requiring parental notification, enforcing medical and safety standards on abortion clinics, including hospital admitting privileges, and redirecting state support toward adoption services and pregnancy resource centers rather than abortion providers.
